We want to hear from you!

The bloggers on PracticalBusinessIntelligence.com have been working with BI for more than 100 years in aggregate.  If you have a question about BI–data management, data strategy, data governance, business performance management, balancing scorecards, cross-functional reporting, etc.–or would like to recommend a topic for the blog, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

How do you submit a question?

Two approaches work. Either 1) Send us an email at biquestions@capstonec.com, or 2) Post a comment to this page.

But make sure they’re intelligent questions. We have a very serious filtering mechanism in place. Inappropriate questions or spam, as well as questions only 3 people on planet earth would care about, will be deleted / ignored. We won’t respond to your emails directly, but if we find your question interesting and feel answering it would benefit the BI community at large, we’ll tackle it in a blog entry, give you credit for asking, and make sure you know we addressed your topic.

So ask away! See if you can stump us! Let’s get some great BI conversation going on.

  1. Hi,

I’ve been working in DW/BI for just on 10 years now, and I’m of the very firm opinion that Operational Reporting fits into the broader scope of BI.

When you see nearly any definition of BI, operational reporting generally fits fairly neatly into it. Especially when you consider the principles of presenting information to people to assist in decision making, etc.

We’ve been doing some work with a very large international consultancy recently on BI strategy, and while I’ve suggested operational reporting should be included in the scope, they’ve strongly disagreed.

    What are your thoughts?

    Regards
    Mick
